BCMB 8140 - Fall, 2002
"Advanced Topics
in
Genomics and Bioinformatics"
Tues/Thurs, 2:00-2:50 PM, Life Sciences, C128
This course will focus on the remarkable impact that the genomics revolution is having on prokaryotic and eukaryotic biochemistry. A broad range of topics will be covered, including structural genomics, functional genomics, DNA chips and microarrays, proteomics, physiological genomics, and bioinformatics. Case studies will be drawn from the microbial, fungal, plant, and animal worlds. Both biochemical and technological perspectives will be represented.
Lectures will be given by selected faculty members with expertise in the various subject areas. A background in the fundamental aspects of biochemistry and genetics is essential, but programming or advanced mathematics is not required. Grading will be based on course participation (50%), as a Discussion Leader (25%), and on an Oral Presentation (25%). If you are interested in taking the course or wish additional information, please contact one of the instructors.
